Kentucky Horse Rescues In The Winner's Circle
Speak Up For Horses at Turfway Park
Lane's End Day at Turfway Park in Kentucky had a special meaning for horses this year. The track introduced Racehorse Retirement Awareness Day on 03/27/2010 while beautiful thoroughbreds were racing on the track. Lane's End Day typically draws the largest crowd during the spring meet. Speak Up For Horses and several other Kentucky horse rescues were invited to set up fundraising booths and educate the public about thoroughbreds and their potential in many disciplines after they retire from racing. Our education program drew a lot of interest as did the pictures of the racehorses we successfully transitioned into new careers.

Pendleton Co. KY animal control officer Gary Maxwell, Speak Up Board Member Annie Haag, and Paulette Wachtel joined Shelly Price in Frankfort Kentucky for the Humane Lobby Day where animal welfare organizations met with Kentucky elected officials about strengthening Kentucky's animal welfare laws.
